"Black White Red #3" by Eternity

It was nearly 20 years ago when I first heard of Falun Gong.  Long before it was trendy and popular in the US, veered off the expected trajectory of my African-American Southeast lifestyle toward something completely new - a gestalt, a fusion of ideas, awakenings and experiences that would included elements of Native American and Far East influences.

At 21, I had radically changed my meat centered diet to a vegetable centered diet, and before that, as a teenager, I was a regular practitioner of mindful breathing, dance and yoga.  Thereafter, I soon became involved in various self-help groups and also began to practice various forms of meditation, also becoming an independent student of mythology and Jungian psychology, and other forms of healing and intellectual enrichment.

It was around the year 2000 that a friend of mine, who was looking to improve his health, told me about Falun Gong, and together we went to a ''cultivation' session in a nearby civic center.  Falun Gong, also know as Falun Dafa, immediately appealed to me because I saw it as a way to incorporate mindful breathing, meditation and the rigorous exercise of held postures and deep stretching.

On my journey into Falun Gong, I learned that the founder of Falun Gong, Li Hongzhi, had been forced to flee his home in China, and was living in a secret location in exile.  I also learned that Falun Gong practitioners in China were being persecuted and imprisoned.

From the "Brief Introduction to Falun Dafa":

Falun Dafa (also called Falun Gong) is an advanced practice of Buddha school self-cultivation, founded by Mr. Li Hongzhi, the practice’s master. It is a discipline in which “assimilation to the highest qualities of the universe—Zhen, Shan, Ren (Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance)—is the foundation of practice. Practice is guided by these supreme qualities, and based on the very laws which underlie the development of the cosmos.” Master Li’s teachings are set forth in a number of texts, among which are included Falun Gong, Zhuan Falun, The Great Perfection Way of Falun Dafa, Essentials for Further Advancement, and Hong Yin (The Grand Verses). These and other works have been translated into thirty-eight languages, and are published and distributed worldwide.
Beyond all the health benefits I've experienced through Falun Gong, my journey also led me to the knowledge that the Swastika prominently featured in the Falun Gong emblem was an ancient symbol used by many tribes and nations around the world, and that the Swastika has many names, including the Wan and The Hand of God.

Falun Gong (Falun Dafa) Emblem (Wikipedia)

In the 20th century, as many, if not most, people are aware, the Swastika was adopted by Nazi Germany, and in just a few years became Western symbol of extreme violence, deceit and hate,

How tragic and very unfortunate that this symbol, which is the oldest known symbol, and which had for eons been used to represent the most auspicious benevolence, had been hijacked for the exploit of one of mankind's most horrible episodes of mass cruelty.

This site, and the fruit it will bear, exists solely as a contribution to the ongoing historical record, in the hopes that it may bring energy and wisdom to the deep anxieties and controversy that has engulfed the Swastika in the last 100 years.
